Copper and Iron Tree — Hand-Forged Outdoor Sculpture
A Statement of Craftsmanship, Legacy, and Connection
The Copper and Iron Tree is a monumental celebration of British craftsmanship — a hand-forged sculpture created to bring lasting presence, symbolism, and beauty to gardens, schools, public institutions, and private estates.
Individually made by hand in the UK using traditional blacksmithing and coppersmithing techniques, each tree is a unique collaboration between artist, environment, and community.
First unveiled at BBC Gardeners’ World Live 2025 in Birmingham, this piece is more than a sculpture — it’s a legacy.
Forged Iron Structure
The trunk, branches, and twigs are formed from mild steel using centuries-old blacksmithing techniques. Each part is hand-cut, heated in a forge, and hammered to mimic the irregularity and life found in real trees. The natural iron is left untreated, allowing it to develop a rich rust patina over time. For clients who prefer a different finish, protective options to prevent rusting are available on request.
Each tree is welded and assembled with an artist’s eye for balance and form, resulting in a strong, organic structure that will age beautifully with the seasons.
Individually Hand-Shaped Copper Leaves
Every copper leaf is cut and formed by hand in shapes reminiscent of birch or beech leaves. Attached one by one to the tree using copper wire, the leaves are delivered in a bright, natural finish that will slowly mellow to rich tones over time.
Beyond aesthetics, these leaves can carry profound meaning: each one can be stamped or shaped by an individual — whether employees, students, patients, or family members — making the tree not only a sculpture, but a record of community and memory.
When erected, the leaves in the tree move in the wind and offer a unique sound to passers by.
